Dizzee Rascal On Newsnight

After Barack Obama’s historic election victory there were many interviews on TV with different black people. Some famous, some not so famous, and general comments were all brought forward, the week after the American elections.

One of the most interesting interviews I witnessed around this time was the one of Dizzee Rascal. He was interviewed by question time presenter Jeremy Paxman on his thoughts on the election victory. When I watched the interview, at the time, I thought it was extremely patronising, as some of the questions asked to Dizzee Rascal where to provoke an answer which would make him look silly, which it did. Dizzee didn’t help himself with some of his answers, and the language he used, but I was interested to read a few weeks ago that I wasn’t the only person who felt Jeremy Paxman was being patronising. UK musician Estelle voiced her opinions on the interview, saying she felt that Paxman was out of line to ask Dizzee Rascal whether he considered himself to be British.

It’s a shame to see that even after such a political and historical victory, a small minority of people will still try to provoke a bad representation of minorities on the box.

Disarming Britain This Week On C4

This week on channel 4 there is a running series called Disarming Britain, where there will be programmes, documentaries and discussions about the alarming rise in gun and knife crime. There will be an introductory programme under the Dispatches format. For those who wouldn’t normally watch TV (due to the trapstar life) if you have anytime this week I would recommend that you watch.

Adulthood Ratings Success

Two weeks ago on Friday, I was one of thousands who flocked to the cinema to watch the sequel to Kidulthood- Adulthood. The film written and directed by Noel Clark is a guaranteed cinema hit, as nearly every cinema where it was shown during the weekend was a complete sell out. The story picks up later on from the previous storyline with leading character Sam being released from prison for the murder or Trife. During the film we are shown how his remorseful character is being tested as he is being dragged back into his old life. It also shows how the previous characters have moved on since the first film. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a sure recommendation.

ACN- Final

So Egypt sucessfully retained the trophy after i had anticipated an all west african final (Ghana vs Ivory Coast both flopped), and after much consideration i have to admit they over the tournament they were the best team. It even made me realise that Ghana really should have put away Cameroon as in the final they lacked any creativity and to my knowledge never really tested the Egyptian goalkeeper.

African Nations Cup Review

With the competition poised for the final this coming weekend. Who will make the last hurdle?

Ghana vs Cameroon

Hosts Ghana put on their best display of the competition on Sunday, beating Nigeria. Coming back from a goal down and with 10 men. This should place the momentum heavily with the home nation, who are eager to win the competition for the first time since 1992 (its been a long time). Center back Mensah will be suspended following his sending off, but apart from that then only decision will be whether to stick with Asamoah Gyan up front. Cameroon have picked up the pace of their campaign after sufferring a loss in their first match. They will be happy that front man Samuel Eto has been in fine form, along with Geremi. Being that they are the visitors they will be happy not to have the same pressure to win as Ghana do which could be an important factor at this stage. Expect a tight game which will be decided on individual brilliance. But i will be expecting a Ghana win. (1-0).

Egypt vs Ivory Coast

Current champions Egypt have been playing well, and their win against Angola was hard fought. They will be a stern test for favourites Ivory Coast. Both teams will be gunning for a final place with Egypt looking to retain their crown as the best country in Africa. Ivory Coast will be glad to hear that Arsenal defender Kolo Toure will be back after suffering a thigh strain. I do think Ivory Coast have more fire power which makes me lean towards a victory for them. (2-0)

BMW 1 Series Coupe

Its coming up to spring, and BMW have a new car lined up for its fans. When the 1 series was launched a few years ago, it was branded a success, giving the hatchback a brilliant sporty look. One which has never been tried with a 5-door. Last year they followed uo their triumph with an even better 3 -door version.

For spring 2008, they have decided to see what the car will do as a coupe as opposed to a hathback, hench the 1 series coupe.

The engine sizes come in 120i through to 135i and the car itself is in the insurance group 14. All in all this coupe will cost £22,000 for the 120 version and around £30,000 for the 135i. To get a feel for the car watch this video.

Wednesday Whips- Coming in 2008.

Audi A3 Convertible

In this last two years there has been a huge increase in drop top vehicles sweeping the roads. Audi, not wanting to be left behind in this category have made nearly their entire range convertible (barring the Q7). The latest edition is the popular A3, which is scheduled to be released during the latter part of the year.

The first impressions of the car are good. Fans of its big brother the A4 will like how its shorter length gives it a more coopish look. Sources in Germany have announced there will be four engine sizes to choose from (two petrol and two TDI), and a wide range of extras including sat nav.

Ford Focus Facelift

Ford have decided to mark its 10 year anniversary of its most sucessful British model- the focus, by giving it a new facelift.

The focus was launched in 1998 and was an immediate hit with the public, so much so that today it is estimated that 1 in 20 cars is a focus. Its value for money and handling provide the greatest customer satisfaction. The look of the new focus is reminiscent of the latest mondeo, which will be the first feature that will strike you. But the look suits the focus. Being that it is a facelift, the rest of the vehicle looks the same as the previous model. This does not mean there are no new additions. They have introduced new alloys to compliment the new car which are available in 16, 17 & 18 inch. There is also the option of LED tail lights, xenon headlights and for titanium versions, leather seats and touchscreen monitor.

Mercedes C-Class Coupe

Mercedes have been keeping very quiet on the release of their c-class coupe. While they haven't released official pictures and details, motor insiders have been told the car will be revealed at this years Franfurt Auto Show in the autumn. The information we do know is that the engine sizes available will be the C180, C200, C230 & the C350, all with the option of being supercharged.

BMW M3 Convertible

After the launch of the M3 its only right that BMW release the convertible in 2008. The 3 series made the first ever hard top convertible last year which looked stunning, so prepared to be wooed by the top spec version in the division. BMW have yet to confirm whether a soft top version will be made, but i assume it will be as this hard top hampers the cars top speed. But there is no denying that this car looks fantastic.
Porsche 911 GT2
This car is being touted as the fastest 911 ever made. The Porsche 911 GT2 looks exciting and its had a many amendments made. Firstly, they have removed excess weight and added more power. This version of the Porsche is also rear wheel drive. All in all this GT2 produces around 530 bhp, meaning a top speed in excess of 185 mph.
